Durisol ICF chosen for sustainable new build development

Work starts next month on the first phase of a new Durisol development of eco-homes.

The sustainable new build development is being built on a brownfield site, the former Penrenglyn School in Treherbert, South Wales. The site will be redeveloped to create 12 three-bedroom semi-detached houses and five three-bedroom bungalows. All will have off-street parking and private gardens.

Sustainability and low carbon are at the heart of this development, with each house being powered by green energy sources. Every home will have solar panels and 100% renewable electricity supplied by Ovo Energy.

All concrete used on the site will be Hanson EcoPlus. This concrete mix uses Hanson Regen – a ground granulated blast-furnace slag and a by-product of the iron-making industry, to replace up to 70% of Portland cement, resulting in a much lower level of embodied CO2 than ordinary cement.

And as an additional commitment to carbon saving, a paid-up two-year lease contract on an electric vehicle comes with every house purchase (subject to conditions).

With sustainability high on the agenda, the developer, RHT Construction Ltd, is using Durisol ICF for this project because of its high thermal performance. The thermal mass effect of the Durisol means the new homes will experience only slight fluctuation in temperature and require minimal heating.

RHT Construction isn’t new to Durisol, having already used our ICF product on previous builds. As well as meeting the developer’s high sustainability credentials, Durisol’s simple and fast build are also reasons for its use on all new projects.
